Tonga’s Fangaʻuta Lagoon Bridge Construction Delayed Due to Land Disputes
The construction of Tonga’s US$97 million Fangaʻuta Lagoon bridge remains stalled, resulting in millions of pa’anga being paid in penalties each month. According to Prime Minister Lord Fakafanua, additional land disputes have emerged since the contract was signed last year, further delaying the project.
The government is currently negotiating with landowners to resolve issues related to compensation and other matters. Prime Minister Fakafanua revealed that these ongoing disputes are the primary cause of the delay. The Fangaʻuta Lagoon bridge project has been hindered by land issues, with the government working to find a resolution to move the construction forward.
