Daniel Kinahan, an alleged mob boss, is being extradited to Ireland from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a government jet. The jet, a Dassault Falcon 6X, departed from Dubai on Sunday morning and is expected to land in Dublin on Sunday evening, just before 6:30pm.
Kinahan, a Dublin boxing promoter in his late 40s, was arrested in Dubai in April on foot of an arrest warrant issued by Irish courts in relation to alleged serious organised crime offences. He is expected to appear before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin on Sunday evening, where he will face a charge of directing an organised crime group.
The government jet had previously flown from Casement aerodrome in Baldonnel, on the outskirts of Dublin, to Dubai on Saturday morning. Minister for Justice Helen McEntee welcomed Kinahan’s extradition, stating, “I welcome today’s extradition of an Irish national from the United Arab Emirates to face charges here in Ireland.”
Minister McEntee attributed the successful extradition to “years of determined work by An Garda SÃochána, successive Governments and officials” and paid tribute to the late John O’Driscoll and former Garda Commissioner Drew Harris for their efforts to tackle serious organised crime. She also acknowledged the cooperation of the UAE government, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and other agencies involved in the process.
Kinahan’s extradition is the result of a long-standing effort by Irish authorities to bring him to justice, and his return to Ireland marks a significant development in the case against him.
