Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement will play a significant role in promoting regional peace. According to Erdogan, the agreement, which is based on collective deterrence, will contribute to advancing security and defense cooperation.
In a recent statement, Erdogan noted that the agreement will also facilitate the development of joint projects in the defense industry and enhance efforts to combat terrorism. He emphasized that the agreement, which reaffirms the right to defense as defined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, does not target any specific country and is open to participation from all countries in the region that prioritize peace, prosperity, and stability.
Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to resolving conflicts and crises through dialogue and diplomacy, based on respect for international law. He stated that Turkey will maintain its principled stance in this regard, in line with its vision of regional ownership.
