The transformation, described as the largest in over 16 years, aims to modernize America’s cyber warfare capabilities and enhance its ability to deter and defeat adversaries in the digital domain.
According to Hegseth, the overhaul is necessary for the US to adapt to the realities of cyberspace. As part of the transformation, Hegseth stated that bureaucratic debris will be removed to promote a meritocracy within the organization.
The announcement was made on Friday, August 8, in Washington, DC. Hegseth shared a video message on the social media platform X, outlining the plans for Cybercom 2.0. The move is intended to strengthen the US Cyber Command and its cyber forces, enabling them to better respond to emerging threats in the digital landscape.
