Romania confirmed on Saturday the downing of a second unmanned aircraft that illegally entered its airspace, just one day after destroying another drone under similar circumstances. This is an unprecedented event for the NATO member state, which for the first time responded militarily to such incursions. The back-to-back incidents highlight growing security challenges along the alliance's eastern border, as unidentified drones continue to test airspace defenses. Romanian authorities have not specified the origin of the drones, but the events are likely to prompt discussions within NATO about bolstering surveillance and response protocols. The developments come amid heightened tensions in the region due to the ongoing war in neighboring Ukraine, where drone activity has been frequent.
