China Sets Ambitious 2030 Sports Targets: 40% Regular Exercise, Trillion-Yuan Industry

China has released a sweeping plan to transform into a leading sports nation by 2030, with ambitious targets to boost public fitness, expand the sports industry, and maintain world-beating elite performance. The blueprint, issued by the General Administration of Sport, covers the 15th Five-Year Plan period from 2026 to 2030.

Under the plan, China aims to increase per capita sports venue space to about four square meters, raise the proportion of residents who exercise regularly to around 40%, and boost the share of the population with a good level of physical fitness to 31.1%. The sports industry’s total value is targeted to exceed 7 trillion yuan (1.03 trillion U.S. dollars).

The plan also calls for China to remain among the world’s leading nations in the number of world titles won, signaling a continued focus on elite athletic success. The targets represent a significant push to integrate sports into daily life and the national economy.

This strategic initiative underscores the government’s commitment to sports as a pillar of public health and economic growth. The 2030 goals build on earlier milestones and aim to accelerate progress in infrastructure, participation, and international competitiveness.
