Shervon Darvick ‘Batman’ Grant, 42, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the 2014 killing of Damien Alexander, leaving him with just over four years left to serve after credit for time already spent in custody. Grant appeared before High Court Justice Devan Rampersad and apologized to Alexander’s family. The fatal incident occurred on June 7, 2014, outside the Universal Bar in St James. An argument escalated when Grant broke a Carib bottle and stabbed Alexander in the neck. Alexander was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries. Grant was arrested at Freddie’s Bakery and later admitted to the stabbing after being shown CCTV footage. He was initially charged with murder in 2014, but after plea discussions, he agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter in November 2025. Defence attorneys noted the offence was not premeditated, occurred while Grant was intoxicated, and involved a single impulsive act. They highlighted his 11 years and 7 months on remand and his rehabilitation efforts, including academic studies. The court accepted the guilty plea and imposed a sentence that will see Grant released after serving the remaining time.
