Third Round of Madagascar Hillclimb Championship on August 2: Can Juan Rakotojohary Stay Unbeatable?

Madagascar’s asphalt slalom and hillclimb championship returns for its third round on Sunday, August 2, at Ambohibary Sambaina, Vakinankaratra. The event, organized by club AS 110, will feature a 1.7 km climb on private land along RN7, 137 km from the capital. For the first time, the region hosts an official hillclimb race.

Registration opened Friday and closes on July 30, with a limit of 40 cars and 10 cross-cars. The program includes a group reconnaissance at 8 a.m., followed by free and timed practice runs. The first competitive run starts at 10:30 a.m., with the second at noon and the third at 1:45 p.m. The driver with the best time in timed practice starts first; the best time in run one leads run two, and the best time in run two starts last in the final run. Each driver must complete at least one run to be classified.

All eyes are on Juan Rakotojohary (FMMSAM), known as Tovonen Jr, who has dominated the first two rounds in his Renault Clio Motul Group M11 2WD. He won both previous rounds with flawless performances, including four fastest times in the opening round. Fans and competitors alike are eager to see if he can extend his winning streak on this new circuit.
