Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that he and the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, signed a written agreement committing Obi to serve only one four-year term if elected president in 2027.
Kwankwaso made the disclosure during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, stating that the pact was a condition for their political alliance. He claimed the document was signed by both parties ahead of the upcoming general election.
The former governor of Kano State did not provide further details on the agreement’s contents or why he chose to reveal it now. The claim has stirred reactions across political circles, with many questioning the transparency of pre-election deals.
