Two Dutch tourists, both around 20 years old, escaped serious injury after their vehicle plunged 20 meters into a ravine in Xirokastello, Zakynthos, late Friday evening. The accident occurred when the vehicle veered off the road and fell down the steep slope.
According to reports, one of the women managed to free herself from the wreckage without assistance. The second tourist remained trapped and required rescue by the Fire Service. Nine firefighters with three vehicles responded to the scene and safely extracted the injured woman.
The rescued tourist sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital in Zakynthos by an EKAB ambulance. Authorities have not released further details about the cause of the crash.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety in tourist-heavy areas of Zakynthos, particularly on rural roads near cliffs and ravines. Local officials are expected to review safety measures in the area.
