Jamaica: Jamaica Constabulary Force Issues Warning to Nightclub Operators Regarding Child Employment

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has issued a warning to operators of nightclubs and entertainment establishments regarding the employment and harboring of children. This advisory follows a recent operation conducted by the Transnational Crime Investigation Division, which took place last Saturday.

During this operation, officers executed search warrants at two venues and interviewed over 30 individuals. As a result of the operation, three individuals have been charged with various offenses. Among those charged is 38-year-old Marsha-Gay McLean from St. Catherine, who is accused of employing a 17-year-old at a nightclub. She faces charges under the Child Care and Protection Act for employing a child in a nightclub and for using a child in a manner deemed contrary to decency or morality.

Additionally, 24-year-old Davion Johnson has been charged with multiple offenses, including possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, and possession of criminal property. Another individual, 25-year-old Najair Brown, has also been charged with possession of ganja and dealing in ganja.

The JCF’s warning emphasizes the seriousness of these offenses and the potential legal consequences for establishments that violate child protection laws. Operators are urged to adhere strictly to regulations concerning the employment of minors to avoid prosecution. The JCF remains committed to enforcing laws that protect children and ensure their safety in all environments.
