Anil Baliram, a local government councillor who suffered a critical incident last month, is now recovering at his home. Baliram, a representative of the Freeport/Chickland district with over 16 years of service, was hospitalized at the Intensive Care Unit of the San Fernando General Hospital following an incident at his residence on May 24.
The incident, which police suspect to have been a suicide attempt, prompted officers from the Couva Police Station to respond to a distress call at Baliram’s residence early in the morning.
Throughout this ordeal, the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation has been offering support to Baliram’s family. The corporation’s chairman, Ryan Rampersad, confirmed that both he and several councillors visited Baliram during his hospital stay and continue to support him through his recovery.
Baliram was discharged last week and is now continuing his recovery at home, surrounded by family and well-wishers. Despite the circumstances, the community’s support for Baliram and his family during this difficult time is unwavering.
