The Guyana Fire Service is currently investigating a fire that occurred on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Lot 10 North Sophia, Greater Georgetown. The incident resulted in the complete destruction of three buildings and significant damage to a fourth.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to find one motorcycle fully destroyed and one building engulfed in flames, with additional structures at risk. In response, the fire service deployed three water tenders to combat the blaze and conducted firefighting, rescue, and recovery operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was maliciously set by an unknown individual, originating from the motorcycle before spreading to nearby buildings. As a result of the fire, seven individuals have been rendered homeless.
The Guyana Police Force is also involved in the investigation, although further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the fire have not been disclosed. The community is now facing the aftermath of the incident, with local authorities working to provide assistance to those affected.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials seek to determine the full extent of the damage and the identity of those responsible for the fire.
