32-Year-Old Arrested Following Devastating Fire at Apaiqua Landing

A 32-year-old man from Grove Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, has been arrested as investigations continue into a devastating fire that destroyed nine buildings at Apaiqua Landing along the Middle Mazaruni River in Guyana. The fire erupted during the early hours of the morning, and its cause remains unknown.
According to Police Headquarters, a 40-year-old businessman from Mainstay/Whyaka Village was awakened by flames coming from a nearby unoccupied wooden structure. An alarm was raised, prompting residents to attempt to extinguish the blaze using water pumps.
Despite their efforts, the fire spread rapidly, consuming several buildings, including local businesses. Authorities have confirmed that multiple individuals have suffered significant losses due to the incident.
The 32-year-old suspect is currently in police custody as investigations into the fire continue, with officials working to determine the cause and any potential culpability.
