In a potentially pivotal moment in the escalating Middle East conflict, U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced a temporary pause in planned military strikes against Iran. The announcement follows ‘very good and productive conversations’ between the U.S. and Iran over the past two days, aimed at achieving a resolution to ongoing hostilities. Consequently, Trump confirmed a five-day postponement of all strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, pending the outcome of continued negotiations.
This decision comes amid a three-week conflict that erupted on February 28, with major strikes on Iran by U.S. and Israeli forces. Iran responded by blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil route, leading to a U.S. ultimatum demanding its reopening within 48 hours. As the tensions rapidly escalated, Iran threatened retaliatory attacks on regional energy infrastructure, and thousands have reportedly lost their lives.
