Ex-PNM Senator Warns of Imminent Traffic Fines Post-Elections

Former PNM senator Laurence Hislop has issued a warning to Tobagonians about the imposition of new traffic fines, which he anticipates will take effect immediately following the THA elections on January 12. Hislop voiced concerns over the government’s delay in enforcing these fines in Tobago, compared to their diligent enforcement in Trinidad. During a political meeting in Roxborough, Hislop questioned the discrepancy in enforcement between the two islands. He predicts a surge in enforcement post-elections, with potential fines reaching up to $19,000. The government, however, rejects these claims, stating that increased traffic fines are part of a broader road safety strategy to deter dangerous driving and decrease road fatalities, not a measure applied selectively.
