Tardieu Family Receives Proof of Life as Kidnapping Enters Sixth

Relatives of Monos Island couple Derek Tardieu and his wife, Claribel, have received proof of life from the kidnappers, senior police sources confirmed yesterday. The development comes more than five days after the pair were abducted from their home on the island.

Tardieu, 70, and Claribel, 47, were taken during what police believe was a targeted kidnapping. Since then, investigators have been engaged in active negotiations with the kidnappers, who have reportedly demanded a US$2.5 million ransom for the couple’s safe release.

According to police, the family received confirmation within the last two days that both Derek and Claribel are alive. Officers described the update as a positive sign and said relatives remain hopeful the situation will be resolved quickly.

Police continue to work closely with the family as negotiations proceed, and multiple units remain involved in the ongoing investigation.
