Rosanna Smith, a retired nurse and former office manager, has been given permission to pursue judicial review proceedings against the Office of the Commissioner of Police following her 21-year-old daughter’s death. Maria Kathleen Smith was discovered dead in a car in Blanchisseuse four years ago, and despite Rosanna’s persistent attempts, the police have consistently refused to disclose crucial information about the investigation. Maria was last seen alive at her family’s home in Chaguanas in October 2021. Her body was found two days later in a forested area, covered with a blanket in a parked car. Investigators classified the death as a suicide, but Rosanna discovered that Maria had been in a secret relationship with a relative who is also a police officer. Despite providing this information and repeatedly asking for updates, Rosanna was met with indifference, leading her to take legal action to advance the inquiry.
