Today, the Ministry of Health issued a warning to parents regarding an international alert for ByHeart Whole Nutrition baby formula. Despite the product not being listed for sale in Trinidad and Tobago, the advisory was given due to the possibility of online purchases. The alert was triggered by the Chemistry Food and Drugs Division, after the CDC and FDA overseas linked the formula to several instances of infant botulism. Symptoms of which are poor feeding, loss of head control, difficulty swallowing, and decreased facial expression. Parents are advised to seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms are observed after consumption of the formula. The ministry also highlighted that symptoms can take weeks to develop, hence parents using the product must remain vigilant. The public has been asked to discontinue its use, consult a doctor if it has been used, and return the product to the place of purchase, if possible. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Chemistry Food and Drugs Division at (868) 217-4664 Ext 13121.
