The Hong Kong Security Bureau held a launch ceremony on 28 October 2026 for a new set of national‑security picture books titled Anzai and Xiongzai: Protecting National Security as Young Citizens. The books, published by the Security Bureau with support from the Education Bureau, will be distributed to more than 900 kindergartens and public libraries across the territory by the end of the year. Director Tang Bingqiang explained that the three‑volume set is designed for very young children. The first book, Anzai Learns to Sing Gently, teaches respect for others; the second, Anzai Learns to Think, encourages children to distinguish right from wrong; and the third, Anzai Learns to Love Home and Country, guides them to cherish family, Hong Kong and the nation. Tang said the illustrations are cartoon‑style and the text is kept short, with more complex ideas presented through storytelling so that children can discover meaning on their own. “The books aim to help children understand from an early age why protecting national security matters,” Tang said. “By combining simple pictures and words, we hope to foster a sense of law‑abiding behaviour and patriotism in young citizens.” During the ceremony, Tang and Education Bureau Deputy Secretary Shi Junhui presented copies of the books to representatives of kindergarten principals, symbolising the intention to embed national‑security education in preschool settings. The Security Bureau will also conduct workshops in schools to accompany the distribution. In addition to the books, the Security Bureau released a song titled Lightly Sing to accompany the first volume. Kindergarten students present at the event performed the song on the spot, using gestures to illustrate the lyrics. Shi highlighted that pairing the books with music allows children to learn in a playful environment, and that parents can read the stories at home with their children. Liang Ruiyao, chair of the Hong Kong Kindergarten Association, said national security is not a distant concept for children; it is part of moral education. She noted that there are few national‑security picture books for this age group and that the new set will be a valuable resource for teachers, parents and children alike. The Security Bureau’s initiative follows a broader effort to promote national‑security awareness among young people, with plans to integrate the books into kindergarten curricula and to encourage parents to participate in activities such as flag‑raising and Chinese culture days.
