Prison officers intercepted 600 cigarettes after a pair of garden boots containing prohibited items was allegedly thrown over the perimeter wall of the Port of Spain Prison early Sunday morning.

Officers attached to the Emergency Response Unit at the prison discovered the pair of garden boots after they were thrown over the wall. A search revealed a total of 600 cigarettes concealed inside.
Acting Commissioner of Prisons Elvin Scanterbury commended the officers involved for their diligence and vigilance in intercepting the items.
He said the discovery highlights continuing attempts by individuals to introduce contraband into correctional facilities.
