**Guyana Welcomes Six Deported Nationals from the United States**
*Guyana – 27 September 2024* – Six individuals—four from Cuba and two from Afghanistan—arrived in Guyana after the government agreed to temporarily accept a limited number of vetted, non‑criminal deportees from the United States.
The agreement, reached after several months of negotiations, is part of a migration‑cooperation framework between the two countries. Under the terms, the United States and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will cover the housing and other costs for the arrivals.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Guyana government said the arrangement allows the country to receive “skilled” deportees who have been vetted for criminal activity. The six newcomers are the first to arrive under the new arrangement.
