Former Miss Universe Wendy Fitzwilliam is opening up about one of the funniest and most humbling moments she experienced after becoming a national celebrity.
Speaking on the Corey Shepard podcast, Fitzwilliam recalled stopping at an ice cream shop in St James after a beach lime with friends when a homeless man immediately recognized her.
At the time, she said she looked completely exhausted from the beach, covered in sand and saltwater.
“I just rolled off the beach,” she explained while describing the encounter.
According to Fitzwilliam, the man looked at her and bluntly questioned how she could represent Trinidad and Tobago looking so disheveled.
The moment became one of her earliest lessons about public image and visibility after entering the pageant world.
Following the experience, Fitzwilliam said she became much more conscious about presentation in public spaces, even casually.
She used the story to explain how competing in pageants taught contestants to interact confidently with all kinds of people, from world leaders and sponsors to ordinary citizens on the street.
The candid story quickly stood out as one of the most relatable and humorous moments from the interview.
