In the early hours of Saturday, June 6th, what started as a vehicle emergency for two young men turned into a nightmare. The men, aged 21 and 22, found themselves stranded on Beetham Highway near Beetham Landfill due to mechanical problems in their white Mitsubishi Lancer that led to an engine fire. While they were attempting to deal with the situation, they were approached by two men who announced a robbery.
A struggle broke out as the victims tried to resist the robbery. During the confrontation, one of the victims was assaulted, suffering several blows before being robbed of his cash. The second victim was not spared. His wallet, which contained cash, identification documents, a driver’s permit, and a bank card, was taken by the assailants.
After committing the robbery, the suspects fled the scene on foot towards Beetham Gardens. They managed to escape before the police arrived. The incident has since triggered an investigation by officers from the Besson Street Police Station who are making efforts to identify and locate the suspects.
The shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can befall motorists dealing with vehicular issues, especially in the early hours when help might not be readily available.
