The Trinidad and Tobago Municipal Police Service (TTMPS) has announced a thorough review of its security protocols. This initiative was prompted by the tragic murder of Corporal Anuska Eversley, who was killed at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station. The review will cover key aspects of policing operations, including security systems, management of the armoury, and access controls across all 14 municipal stations.
The decision to carry out a comprehensive security evaluation was disclosed by the newly appointed head of the TTMPS, Assistant Commissioner Wayne Mystar. Mystar emphasized the need for a security overhaul to prevent similar incidents in the future. The review aims to identify potential vulnerabilities within the current system and implement improvements. This development follows days after three municipal police officers were formally charged with the murder of Corporal Eversley, along with robbery with violence and possession of a firearm.
In light of these events, former head of the TTMPS, Surrendra Sagramsingh, has been placed on leave pending a detailed investigation into the security breaches that might have contributed to the incident. The charges against the three officers and the administrative leave of Sagramsingh are seen as urgent steps towards restoring integrity and safety within the police service.
