Former Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Minister Padarath are set to be referred to the Privileges Committee due to allegations made against senators from the Independent Bench. Senator Dr. Marlene Attzs, when asked about these allegations, stated that she was unaware of the opposition’s claims. She emphasized that the nine members of the Independent Bench were appointed to serve the people of Trinidad and Tobago, holding their duty above fear or favour. In light of the allegations, she expressed no need to discuss the matter with the President who appointed her. Attzs also suggested that the Prime Minister should not name individuals involved in the allegations, to prevent further controversy.
