Trinidad and Tobago Extends Landlord Business Surcharge Registration Deadline to June 2026

Following consultations with stakeholders and the public, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago has announced an extension for the mandatory registration under the Landlord Business Surcharge. The new deadline is now set for June 30, 2026. The Ministry of Finance and the Inland Revenue Division have stated that the extension aims to provide landlords, property owners, and rent collecting agents additional time to prepare and submit the necessary documentation.

Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo revealed that the decision was made after considering feedback from the public. By extending the deadline, the government hopes to make the registration process more efficient for citizens. “We listened to the public, met with stakeholders and heard what they had to say,” Tancoo stated.

Under the measure, all individuals receiving rental income must register. This includes individuals living abroad who own rental properties in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as agents collecting rent on behalf of landlords. Registration comes with a one-time fee of TT$2,500.

The surcharge structure is set at 2.5% on gross quarterly rental income of TT$20,000 or less, and 3.5% on income exceeding TT$20,000. The Inland Revenue Division is urging affected individuals to complete registration early to avoid possible penalties or delays. Further assistance, in the form of registration forms and additional guidance, is available through the Inland Revenue Division’s official website.
