Sanjiv Boodhu, a temporary opposition senator, has cautioned that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar should not be endowed with the sole power to declare Zones of Special Operations (ZOSOs). Boodhu called out the Prime Minister’s prior statements on crime and her confrontational governance style as reasons to be wary of such authority. He voiced these concerns during the Senate debate on the ZOSO Bill, arguing that it concentrates too much power with the Prime Minister and risks infringing upon constitutional rights.
