A car rental operator faced significant losses after a routine GPS tracking led him to an abandoned vehicle in Laventille. On Thursday, April 16th, 2026, around 3:00 PM, the businessman noticed that a silver Toyota Aqua he had rented out stopped transmitting its location. Concerned, he utilized the vehicle’s GPS system to trace it to an area near a basketball court in Trou Macaque.
Attempts to reach the customer who rented the vehicle were unsuccessful, prompting the owner to investigate the situation personally. Upon arriving at the traced location, he found the car parked along the roadside but discovered a troubling sight—its hybrid battery, valued at approximately $14,000 TT, had been removed.
This incident has raised alarms regarding the security of rental vehicles and the potential for theft in the area. Local police are now conducting investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding the removal of the expensive battery and the whereabouts of the customer who vanished after the rental.
The rental operator is hopeful for a swift resolution to the issue as he continues to assess the impact of this loss on his business. Meanwhile, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
