A dispute has emerged between Culture and Community Development Minister Michelle Benjamin and Port of Spain Mayor Chinua Alleyne, following complaints from patrons of Flava Village. Several attendees of the cultural hub reported their vehicles were wrecked while parked nearby. Minister Benjamin has suggested the incidents could be politically motivated and intends to raise the issue with Mayor Alleyne, who has stressed that law enforcement falls under the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s jurisdiction, not his office. The incidents have added political tension to what is usually a community-focused space. At press time, no official announcement on a joint investigation or resolution has been made, although Mayor Alleyne has reaffirmed the city’s commitment to address public concerns.
