This announcement comes after Defence Minister Wayne Sturge suggested in a parliamentary session that the killings might be linked, citing specific locales and details to support his claim.
The investigation’s conclusion by senior police officials directly counters Minister Sturge’s allegations. While addressing Parliament, Sturge repeatedly emphasized that his assertions were based on intelligence obtained from sources on the ground. Nonetheless, Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro declined to corroborate the Defence Minister’s perspective, neither confirming nor denying the supposed connection between the two high-profile cases.
The Belmont case involved a horrific triple murder that included the tragic death of a 23-month-old toddler. The Morvant incident, occurring three weeks prior, was a quadruple murder that further heightened community tensions. Despite the shocking nature of these events, police investigations have so far found no evidence to connect them.
To further advance their efforts in crime prevention and solving these cases, officers continue to engage in active community outreach. As part of this strategy, homicide officers revisited Belmont, distributing flyers and urging residents to come forward with any information that might aid in their investigations.
