This new legislation provides citizens with increased legal protection in self-defence situations. Under previous laws, people could potentially face severe legal repercussions, such as murder or manslaughter charges, if their self-defensive actions didn’t comply with stringent legal requirements. According to Seepersad, this bill empowers the public by providing them with greater authority to protect themselves.
