YouTube sensation Jimmy Donaldson, famously known as MrBeast, recently unveiled a personal struggle that his 300M+ subscribers were largely unaware of – his ongoing battle with Crohn’s disease. Diagnosed at just 15, Donaldson endured drastic weight loss, dropping from a healthy 190 pounds to a mere 139. The disease, which caused his immune system to target his own gut, subjected him to excruciating pain, equatable to ‘constant stabbing’, he revealed.
The course of treatment that finally showed results was a potent drug named Remicade. However, the relief came with a heavy trade-off. It essentially incapacitated his immune system, leaving him vulnerable to a variety of illnesses. As a consequence, Donaldson caught COVID six times, developed shingles, and experiences frequent rashes and other ailments.
In the midst of managing his health, the YouTube star mentioned the option of surgical intervention, which would involve removing part of his gut. This possibility, though, remains unexplored as his YouTube career continues to occupy his attention.
Displaying his classic tenacity, Donaldson undertook a two-week water fast despite medical advice to the contrary. The fast resulted in a loss of over 20 pounds, which he referred to as ‘pretty depressing’.
