In a significant lapse of security, twelve revolvers have reportedly gone missing from the Penitence Street Municipal Police Office in San Fernando. The troubling discovery was confirmed by Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro, who noted that the incident adds to a previous pattern of missing weapons from this facility.
On April 22, an inspection of the office’s safe revealed it was empty, with investigators confirming the absence of the revolvers. This development follows an earlier audit which had uncovered nine rounds of ammunition and an additional 9mm round, all with Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) markings, unaccounted for. Such recurring issues underscore ongoing concerns regarding accountability and security within the municipal police force.
In response to the incident, charges have been filed against three individuals, including a municipal police officer. The suspects appeared before a San Fernando magistrate as legal proceedings begin. This case has raised questions about the necessary security measures at police facilities, particularly in safeguarding firearms and ammunition.
