A man who spent roughly two months in Golden Grove Prison has shared a horrifying ordeal. He claimed to have been sexually assaulted multiple times by fellow inmates during his incarceration. Fearful for his safety, he refrained from reporting these incidents at the time.
After enduring multiple court appearances, his criminal case was eventually dismissed following a successful no-case submission by his defence attorney. The traumatic experience, however, had already left lasting impacts.
In a subsequent civil claim, the man unveiled the extent of his trauma, citing ongoing physical, emotional, and psychological harm. The distress from the prison experience extended beyond the individual, having severe repercussions on his personal life.
His marriage suffered a breakdown, and he battled with suicidal struggles. Further, he experienced financial losses due to his inability to participate in the Canadian International Farm Programme. The ordeal has deeply affected all aspects of his life, painting a grim picture of his time in the detention facility.
