DPP Orders Inquest Into Death of 11-Year-Old Adrianna Younge in Guyana
GEORGETOWN, Guyana — The death of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge is set to be formally examined after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recommended that an inquest be held into the circumstances surrounding her passing.
The recommendation calls for a full judicial inquiry to establish the cause of death and the sequence of events leading up to the incident, which is reported to have occurred between April 23 and 24, 2025, in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
The case sparked widespread public outrage across Guyana at the time, triggering protests that escalated into violent unrest in several areas. During the disturbances, reports indicated that a hotel was set on fire and that two men were fatally shot during confrontations with police.
The Guyana Police Force has confirmed receipt of the DPP’s advice and says steps have begun to initiate the inquest process in accordance with the law.
In a brief statement, police acknowledged the strong public concern surrounding the case and reiterated their commitment to professionalism, accountability, and due process as investigations continue.
