State Strengthen Legal Team with Renowned UK Barristers

State Retains UK Barristers in Hadeed Detention Case

The State has strengthened its legal team in the ongoing detention case involving businessman Dominic Hadeed and his wife, Genevieve Hadeed, by retaining two prominent UK barristers to represent its interests in the legal proceedings.

According to recent Legal Notices published in the Trinidad and Tobago Gazette, Sir James Eadie KC and Robert Strang KC have been granted admission to appear before the courts in Trinidad and Tobago for the matter.

The Hadeeds are challenging their detention during the ongoing State of Emergency and have filed legal action against the Commissioner of Police, raising issues surrounding the use of emergency powers and the protection of individual rights.

Sir James Eadie is one of the United Kingdom’s most experienced public law barristers, having represented the British Government in numerous high-profile constitutional and national security cases. Robert Strang KC also has extensive experience in complex public and commercial litigation.

The decision by the State to engage senior King’s Counsel from the UK underscores the significance of the constitutional issues likely to arise during the proceedings.

The case is expected to attract considerable public attention as the courts examine the balance between national security measures implemented under the State of Emergency and the constitutional rights of individuals.
