Guyana: Trio Wanted in Connection with AK-47 Assault Rifle Case

Police in Guyana are seeking three individuals in connection with the illegal possession of ten AK-47 assault rifles. The announcement follows the arraignment of a 33-year-old man, Stephen Raja, who was charged with illegal possession of firearms. Raja was presented before a magistrate in New Amsterdam, where he was not required to enter a plea and was subsequently remanded to prison after bail was denied. The case is set to be revisited on June 15, 2026.

Authorities have identified the three individuals wanted in connection with the case as 33-year-old Antonio Alonzo “Lanzo” Lawrie, Ryan “Satan” Singh from Parika Outfall Seadam, and 21-year-old Gregory Anthony Persaud from Area ‘G’ Ogle and Farm, both located on the East Coast Demerara.

The police operation that led to the discovery of the firearms took place during a stop-and-search exercise along the Berbice River Bridge access road in the early hours of Thursday. According to police reports, the operation occurred between 1 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. A black Toyota Corolla Fielder, registered as HC 9018, was stopped by police, but the driver fled the scene heading eastward.

Following this, police acted on information received and conducted a search along No. 11 Village Public Road, where they discovered the ten AK-47 rifles wrapped in plastic and cloth. The Guyana Police Force has confirmed the details of the operation and continues to investigate the matter.
