TEDxTurkeyen is officially scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Fresh Café located on Carmichael Street in Georgetown, Guyana. This independently organized intellectual symposium operates under the globally recognized TED mission of “ideas worth spreading.” The event is themed “Bold Voices. New Visions. Shaping Guyana’s Tomorrow,” coinciding with Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of independence.
The organizers aim for TEDxTurkeyen to act as a bridge between elite academic research and grassroots community perspectives, creating a unique civic forum amid the country’s ongoing economic transformation driven by oil. The event is designed to foster an environment for free thought and public discourse, distancing itself from modern political hyper-partisanship.
Janelle Persaud, the Coordinator of TEDxTurkeyen and a local communications specialist, emphasized the importance of creating a space for civic reflection. She stated, “There are plenty of brilliant Guyanese people with so many ideas on how we can improve individually and collectively. I simply want to create a space where they can talk about those ideas and present those visions in an environment where they are not judged, and where there are absolutely no sort of societal or professional repercussions.”
Persaud has previously highlighted the challenges faced by independent civic dialogue within local institutions. The event is structured around six core pillars aimed at fostering sustainable evolution in the country. Attendees can expect a vibrant and fast-paced exchange designed to challenge the status quo and inspire community-driven approaches to building an equitable economy.
Doors will open at 4:00 PM, and registration confirms that the event is fully sold out, indicating strong interest from local civil society, young entrepreneurs, and academic thinkers eager to contribute to the future narrative of Guyana.
