Guyana: No agreement for Suriname to solely finance Corentyne Bridge – Govt

The Government of Guyana has issued a statement denying claims made by Suriname concerning the financing of the proposed Corentyne Bridge, which aims to connect the two neighboring countries. According to the Guyanese authorities, there have been no discussions regarding Suriname financing the bridge independently.

The government emphasized that it had not received any information about unilateral decisions made by Suriname regarding the financing of the project. This clarification follows Suriname’s suggestion that it had previously communicated its intentions about funding the bridge.

The Corentyne Bridge project has garnered interest from both nations, as it is seen as a means to enhance connectivity and promote economic cooperation. However, the absence of an agreement on financing indicates that further discussions will be required to advance the project.

The statement from the Guyanese government aims to clarify the current situation and reaffirm its stance on the matter. It highlights the necessity for collaborative dialogue between Guyana and Suriname as they consider the future of the bridge project.

As of now, no formal financing arrangements have been established. Both governments will need to engage in additional negotiations to reach a consensus on how to proceed with the Corentyne Bridge initiative.
