Guyana: Guyana Government Negotiates Power Supply Rates with Ship Operator

The Government of Guyana is currently engaged in negotiations with the operator of two power ships that are supplying around 96 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid. One of these power ships is stationed in the Demerara River at Meadow Bank, generating 60 MW, while the other is located at a different site.

The primary goal of these negotiations is to secure the “best possible commercial rate” for the electricity provided by these vessels. Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, has stated that the government is dedicated to ensuring that there is no interruption in power generation during this negotiation period. The power ships are essential in meeting the electricity demands of the country, especially as efforts to improve the energy infrastructure continue.

As the discussions advance, officials are concentrating on achieving a balance between cost-effectiveness and the necessity for a reliable power supply. The results of these negotiations may have significant consequences for the energy sector in Guyana, as the government aims to uphold stability in electricity provision for its citizens.

Further updates regarding the negotiations and their potential impact on power supply are anticipated as discussions progress. The government remains committed to transparency and will provide information as it becomes available.
