A Tuesday morning incident on Lady Chancellor Road has once again highlighted the dangers security officers face in the line of duty. An estate constable found himself in a confrontation with an alleged intruder. The 68-year-old guard was on his routine 2:30 a.m. patrol when he was alerted to a disturbance by the sound of a barking dog and other suspicious noises on the property.
Upon investigating, the guard encountered a man, described as being of East Indian descent, indulging in an unusual early morning champagne toast. The situation turned volatile when the man noticed the officer, broke the bottle, and menacingly advanced towards the guard wielding it as a weapon.
Fearing for his safety, the estate constable drew his licensed Glock 19 firearm and discharged a shot in the suspect’s direction. Whether the shot hit the suspect remains unclear as he fled further into the compound on foot.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into this alarming incident is currently underway.
