Ebola Risk in Barbados Remains Low, Reassures Health Chief

In a recent address, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kenneth George sought to reassure Barbadians regarding the Ebola outbreak, stating that the risk of the virus reaching the island remains low. Despite the ongoing situation in parts of Africa such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda, he emphasized the importance of vigilance and maintaining good hygiene practices.

Dr. George pointed out that Ebola is transmitted through close human interaction with bodily fluids and that the first symptoms usually include fever and general malaise. He explained that health authorities are closely monitoring travelers from regions with confirmed cases and have implemented measures at the airport to ensure safety.

The CMO further noted that public awareness and adherence to hygiene practices taught during the COVID-19 pandemic are crucial in minimizing potential risks. He reminded the public that not all arrivals from Africa pose a health threat, calling for careful consideration and understanding among citizens as they navigate these concerns.
