The pharmaceutical sector in Trinidad and Tobago is reportedly under the control of a select few dominant companies. These firms hold significant sway over pricing, distribution, and access to medication, according to Glenwayne Suchit, the president of the Private Pharmacy Retail Business Association (PPRBA). Suchit’s comments came during a Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC) hearing, chaired by House Speaker Jagdeo Singh. This situation reveals an alarming ‘drug monopoly’ in the country’s healthcare sector.
