Trinidad’s Defence Minister Wayne Sturge confirmed a ministerial file related to firearms dealer Brent Thomas is missing from the Ministry of National Security. The missing file includes ministerial support and correspondence regarding Thomas’s arrest and return from Barbados in October 2022. Minister Sturge highlighted the difference between ministerial files and criminal files, the latter maintained by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service during investigations. The confusion arose as the public and media outlets conflated the two. The police continue their probe into the conduct of officers involved in the operation. Thomas was arrested in Trinidad, taken from his hotel in Barbados while heading to the U.S. for medical treatment, and returned to Trinidad on weapons charges. The cabinet will consider a Commission of Enquiry into the case.
