Amar Bissoon, a member of the Bissoon family, became the latest victim in a series of violent deaths that have plagued the family over the past eight years. He was shot and killed in St. Augustine on Thursday, July 2, 2026, during an attack along Samaroo Avenue, Dookiesingh Street. Residents reported a barrage of gunfire, and although emergency responders were alerted, Amar was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Homicide Bureau launched an immediate investigation into the killing, processing the scene and gathering evidence. Efforts are ongoing to establish a motive and identify the perpetrators, but no arrests have been made yet.
Amar’s death marks another sorrowful chapter in the Bissoon family’s tragic history with violent crime. His father, Amaranth Bissoon, was killed during an alleged home invasion in 2018. Three years later, in 2023, Amar’s uncle, Anand ‘Fly’ Bissoon was gunned down in a double homicide. In a subsequent year, Amar’s younger brother, Amir ‘Pa’ Bissoon, lost his life during a police operation.
With Amar’s death, the Bissoon family has endured four violent deaths since 2018, a grim reminder of the relentless cycle of violence that has haunted them. The community’s attention has once again been drawn to the family’s tragic experiences, underscoring the urgent need for justice and peace.
