Una persona desaparecida y otra rescatada tras emergencia en Playa Grande, Río San Juan

A man was rescued alive after a maritime emergency on Sunday afternoon at Playa Grande in the municipality of Río San Juan, María Trinidad Sánchez province, Dominican Republic. The incident occurred amid strong surf that hampered rescue operations. According to preliminary reports, a man entered the water to assist a person who was in danger. While he was able to be rescued by the Police Turística (POLITUR) and the National Emergency and Security System (9‑1‑1), the individual he was trying to help remains missing. The identity of the missing person has not yet been released, and authorities have not provided details on the circumstances of the incident. The rough sea conditions prompted officials to evacuate all beachgoers and prohibit access to the water for the remainder of the afternoon. A red flag was displayed at Playa Grande to signal the dangerous conditions and the ban on swimming. Authorities urged the public to heed the warning signs and avoid entering the sea when a red flag is posted, following guidance from the security and rescue agencies. The community remains awaiting further information about the missing person and the progress of search efforts.
