Apprentice jockey Izzy Neale fighting for life after horrific fall at Warren

Apprentice jockey Izzy Neale, 22, is in critical condition after a severe fall at the Warren race track, located about six hours northwest of Sydney. The incident occurred during race six on Sunday, when Neale and fellow jockey Diego Montes de Oca both fell from their mounts, Marnoo and Shadow Dane, with approximately 400 metres remaining. Neale was air‑lifted to Dubbo Hospital, where she remains in a critical state. Montes de Oca was transported by ambulance with a suspected broken foot. The horse Marnoo was euthanised after sustaining a near‑foreleg injury, according to Racing NSW stewards. In response to the accident, Racing NSW announced that the scheduled race meeting at Scone on Monday had been postponed. “Following consultation with jockeys and trainers engaged to participate at today’s race meeting at Scone, a decision has been made to postpone the meeting,” the governing body said. “The decision follows the serious race fall involving apprentice jockey Izzy Neale at Warren yesterday. Izzy remains in Dubbo Hospital in a critical condition, with her family by her side. The thoughts and heartfelt support of Racing NSW and the entire racing community are with Izzy, her family, friends and colleagues during this extremely difficult time.” The incident has prompted an outpouring of support from the racing community. Sky Racing presenter and former jockey Melinda Turner said, “Praying for a miracle tonight. A terrible day for our industry.” The Australian Jockeys’ Association added, “Sending all our love and support to Izzy and Diego after a dreadful fall at Warren. Will update conditions ASAP.” Racing analyst Ben Walker expressed, “Today was a tough day. My thoughts and prayers are with Izzy, her family and many friends. Hug your loved ones and tell someone you love them. We’re all just doing our best in life.” Melbourne Cup winner Robbie Dolan noted, “Tough day to be a jockey when things like this happen.” Olivia Kold of Racing.com wrote, “Just wanted to say, as we broadcast the Victorian Hamilton meeting today, that our thoughts will very much remain with Izzy Neale, her family, friends, colleagues and loved ones. She will be in our minds all day.” The racing community continues to rally around Neale and her family as she receives treatment at Dubbo Hospital.
