Umujyi wa Kigali wafunze inyubako 5 z’ubucuruzi

The City of Kigali announced on 30 October 2026 that five buildings will be closed for safety reasons. The structures include the Kabuga Market, the Gisozi Umukindo, the Gisozi Comejoga, the ASMMS Ltd building in Kicukiro district, and the Gahoromani market. The closures are being carried out because the buildings do not comply with fire‑safety regulations and could pose a risk to people and property. The city’s statement said the buildings will be shut down from the evening of 31 October 2026. Owners of the properties will not be allowed to charge rent for the days the buildings remain closed. The notice also urged owners and tenants to remove any items that could be damaged or that are urgently needed before the closures take effect. City officials called on owners and managers to implement the fire‑safety measures that have been requested in order to protect public safety and to allow commercial activity to resume as soon as possible. “We want the owners to act on the inspections that have been carried out so that the safety of people and property is protected,” said Emma Claudine Ntirenganya, the city’s spokesperson, in a statement on X. She added that the city had seen a number of fire incidents in the area and that it was essential for building owners to take preventive action. The decision follows a fire that broke out on 25 October 2026 at the Gisozi market, which was the eighth incident in the area. The blaze affected a section of the market that housed a bakery, a goods storage area and a craft workshop within the Koperative ADARWA premises. The fire caused significant damage and highlighted the need for stricter fire‑safety compliance.
