Two women who were shot and killed at a beauty spa in Couva on Wednesday morning, October 28, 2026, have been identified as 55-year-old business owner Kavita Deosaran of Freeport and 64-year-old Cheryl Dixon of Couva. The deadly shooting occurred shortly after 9:20 a.m. at Soho Beauty Haven, located at Veneris Plaza, on the corner of Southern Main Road and Charlotte Street, Couva. According to initial police information reported by the Trinidad Express, a gunman dressed in blue coveralls entered the establishment carrying a firearm. The suspect reportedly approached Dixon and questioned her about the vehicle she was driving before pointing the firearm at her and firing two shots. The gunman then proceeded into another room within the spa, where he confronted Deosaran, the owner of the establishment. Two additional gunshots were reportedly heard shortly afterwards, before the suspect fled in an unknown direction. Both women died following the attack. The incident triggered a major police response, with officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, Couva Criminal Investigations Department and Central Division Task Force arriving at the scene. Forensic officers were observed gathering evidence inside the establishment, while the District Medical Officer and undertakers also attended. The shooting occurred in a busy commercial plaza housing several businesses, including a school catering to children with special needs. Parents were seen gathering outside the area to collect their children as police continued their investigations. The brazen nature of the attack, carried out during normal morning business hours in a busy commercial area, has raised serious concerns about public safety. The motive for the killings has not been established, and police have not publicly confirmed whether either woman was specifically targeted. Investigations are continuing as officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding the double murder and identify and apprehend the gunman.
